The Marat Daukayev Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker features dancers whose artistry and poise belie their young ages. This full-length ballet complete with battling mice and soldiers, an enchanting snowy forest, and Tchaikovsky’s beloved score is an audience favorite. With more than 150 dancers and 500 costumes, acclaimed former Kirov ballet star Marat Daukayev dances the role of Drosselmeyer alongside his amazingly accomplished students in this iconic and magically festive holiday classic. Marat Daukayev received his professional training at the Vaganova and Perm Ballet Schools.

From rasping vocals that tear open the heavens to instrumentations that interweave in a harmonious dance that is complex and resolutely modern, their music is evocative and poignant.

Robert Hudson has been a force in the art world for more than 50 years. Uncharacteristic of the complex, illusionistic, polychrome constructions for which he is best known, the historic body of minimalist work on view at the Luckman demonstrates his broad artistic range. While an assistant professor at UC Berkeley, Hudson was given access to a nearby government surplus yard.
