No campus fees are charged for May Session courses. Students will only be charged the per unit fee.

Cancellations and Refunds

Cancelled Courses: Students should find another class to meet their summer schedule needs. If there are not any courses to meet this need, a refund will be issued. DO NOT drop yourself from a cancelled course; use the SWAP feature in GET.

Course Drops and Tuition Refunds: Students enrolling in courses (Section 80, 81, 82 or greater) and programs offered in May/Summer Session(s) through PaGE are entitled to a tuition refund when they follow the established campus procedures and deadline dates to drop courses/units or completely withdraw from May/Summer Session(s). Students who completely withdraw/drop courses on or after the start date of May Session must pay pro-rata tuition fees for the number of days enrolled in each session. The pro-rata tuition charges are calculated based on the drop or withdraw date and the length of the session(s). Refund checks will be mailed to the mailing address on the Cal State LA student GET.

Students must pay tuition for the number of days enrolled in the session. Detailed Refund Policies and Proration Schedules information can be found on the Disbursement Office Webpage or by calling (323) 343-3630.

The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after fees are initially charged or initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees. All listed fees,other than mandatory system wide fees, are subject to change without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, or the Presidents, as appropriate. Changes in mandatory system wide fees will be made in accordance with the requirements of the Working Families Student Fee Transparency and Accountability Act (Section 66028-66028.6 of the Education Code).

Financial Aid

Pell Grant eligible students who have one full term of remaining Pell Grant eligibility will have their Pell Grant award automatically posted to their financial aid award for Summer Session (includes May Session). Students must be enrolled a minimum of half-time to quality for a Pell Grant award. Students who wish to pursue federal loan options should submit a Summer Financial Aid Request. Students must have a complete financial aid file to be considered for summer funding. Students should check their “TO DO” list on GET to determine if they have any outstanding and required documents. Summer financial aid requests WILL NOT be processed for students with outstanding financial aid documents. NOTE: If you are enrolled less than full-time (12 units undergraduate; 12 weighted units graduate), most financial aid programs require a prorated reduction in your awards. Examples of the required proration for undergraduate students are as follows:

12 units = 100% 9-11 units = 75% 6-8 units = 50% 1-5 units = 25%

Steps to apply (for loans only): 

  1. Complete a Cal State LA Financial Aid Request.
  2. PLAN AHEAD!  Meet with your Financial Aid Advisor to verify if you have any remaining eligibility from the current academic year that can be used for May or Summer.
  3. If you wish to take advantage of your student loan options, please complete the loan process during the current academic year.

Please note that May Session is included in Summer Session  financial aid guidelines.

How to Register

Cal State L.A. is a pay ahead campus. You must pay tuition prior to completing your enrollment.

Continuing Cal State LA Students: Continuing Cal State LA students will register though GET. Please check your email for your GET appointment date. Cal State LA requires payment in full when registering for courses. For more information, please visit Cal State LA Student Financial Services.

Non-Cal State LA Students: Non-Cal State LA students may enroll in courses from the May Session class schedule. Instructor signature is not required prior to the start of the term. However, it is important that pre-requisites have been completed. Enrollment is based on course availability. Registration may be completed by submitting the May Session Registration Form (coming soon) or by calling (323) 343-4900. Cal State LA requires payment in full when registering for courses.

Department  or Instructor Consent: Some sections may need department or instructor permission prior to enrolling in restricted courses.

Pre-Requisites: Please be prepared to show proof of any pre-requisites from an official or unofficial transcript. Additionally, some course sections may have co-requisites.

State-Supported Summer: During the summer, certain colleges such as the Charter College of Education and College of Business and Economics also offer state-supported courses. These courses are listed as Section 1-79. These courses may be taken by non-Cal State LA students through Open University.

Continuing Cal State LA students may also enroll in these courses and pay state-supported tuition.
