Guest tickets can only be reserved by the graduating candidate. It is the graduating candidate's responsibility to reserve tickets during Grad Fair on March 20 and 21, 2018, or online starting April 2, 2018, at 8 a.m. (PST) until May 4, 2018, at 5 p.m. (PST). After the deadline date, guest tickets are no longer guaranteed.
Each guest attending the ceremonies, including children, will require a guest ticket. Each ticket has a unique bar code and is specific to a ceremony. Once a bar code has been scanned, any copies of the same ticket will not be valid and will not allow entry into the gymnasium.
IMPORTANT: Please note that commencement tickets are FREE and are not for sale. Tickets that are sold or bought are not authorized by the University and the authenticity of these tickets cannot be guaranteed.
Guests who are unable to obtain a ticket can view the ceremonies at the Golden Eagle Ballrooms 1 & 2, located on the third floor of the Golden Eagle building. Each ceremony will be livestreamed. No tickets are required for this venue. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
From May 21 - 25, 2018, each ceremony will be livestreamed online. Guests who are unable to attend but woudl like to view the festivities can visit www.calstatela.edu and watch the ceremonies from their computer, laptop, or mobile device.
Guests are encouraged to enter the campus from the north (Valley Boulevard) and east (Hellman Avenue) to help alleviate the traffic arriving from the southern entrances to campus (the San Bernardino 10 Freeway and Eastern Avenue). Attendees will be directed to the following parking structures for Commencement:
- Structure C (all levels)
- Lot 5
- Lot 8 (accessible parking only)
Parking is free at these lots and are on a first-come, first-served basis. We urge all attendees to arrive early and carpool, or use public transportation. All other lots on campus are either restricted or require the necessary parking permits.
Guests with a DMV disability placard or plates will be directed to accessible parking locations in close proximity to the University Gymnasium.
If you are a guest who has physical limitations that does not own a disabled placard, please have your graduating candidate stop by the Parking and Transportation Service Center at least 3 days prior to Commencement to obtain a special permit to park in an accessible lot (up to two permits per graduate). If you require a wheelchair, please make arrangements on your own according to specific needs. Wheelchairs are not available on campus.
Shuttles will be available and will have stops at Lot 5, top of Structure C, Lot 8, and the Cal State LA Transit Center. The shuttles are open to all attendees but priority will be given to guests with accessibility needs, elderly, or guests with small children. The shuttles will run May 21 – 24, from 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., and May 25 from 6:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
For the safety of all our graduating candidates, guests, faculty and staff, all guests must pass through security at the designated entrance locations to the University Gymnasium. The following items will not be allowed inside the venue:
- mid-to large-size purses, backpacks, satchels, and duffel bags
- large signs and flags
- pets (except service animals)
- cigarettes (including electronic cigarettes)
- lawn chairs
- ice chests/coolers
- glass containers
Please be mindful that noisemakers, air horns, or megaphones can block and/or disturb the enjoyment of others.
MEDICAL / EMERGENCY
Ambulance and Basic Life Support (BLS) personnel will be available during the 2018 Commencement ceremonies.
Guests are encouraged to arrive 60-75 minutes before the ceremonies to accommodate for traffic, parking, large crowds, and mobility. All gates open 60 minutes* prior to each ceremony. Five minutes before the scheduled start time, gates will close and will not reopen until after the national anthem. Each guest will be required to possess a ticket**, including children, in order to gain admittance to the University Gymnasium. Each ticket has a unique barcode and will be scanned before you enter. In-and-out privileges to the gymnasium will only be available 30 minutes after start time.

** It is the graduating candidate's responsibility to reserve and distribute tickets to their guests.
Guest seating inside the gymnasium is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive early to obtain the best possible seating for you and your companions. Seating will be on the gymnasium north and south bleachers on the main floor or on the upper grandstand.
Accessibility seating are located on main floor only and are on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be designated accessible seating areas in front of the bleachers, and an exclusive accessible / closed captioning seating area behind student seating. One companion may accompany guests with accessibility needs in these locations.
SIGN LANGUAGE AND LIVESTREAM CAPTION
Sign language interpreters will be on stage and projected on the jumbo screen during each Commencement ceremony. Television screens featuring captions will be placed in a section reserved for the deaf and hard-of-hearing inside the gymnasium.
HONOR YOUR GRADUATE
Pledge $20.18 or more to support the Cal State LA Fund to honor your graduate. The name of your graduate will scroll on the jumbo screen before the ceremony starts. Your gift will be used to support the University's highest priorities.
