BorderTICKETS

Guest tickets can only be reserved by the graduating candidate. It is the graduating candidate's responsibility to reserve tickets during Grad Fair on March 20 and 21, 2018, or online starting April 2, 2018, at 8 a.m. (PST) until May 4, 2018, at 5 p.m. (PST). After the deadline date, guest tickets are no longer guaranteed.
 
Each guest attending the ceremonies will need a ticket to enter the gymansium and get seated. Tickets will not be required for children under the age of 2, who can sit comfortably on a parent’s lap for the entire duration of the ceremony. However if a seat is required for the child and/or the child is older than 2 years old, a ticket will be needed. Each ticket has a unique bar code and is specific to a ceremony. Once a bar code has been scanned, any copies of the same ticket will not be valid and will not allow entry into the gymnasium.
 

IMPORTANT: Please note that commencement tickets are FREE and are not for sale. Tickets that are sold or bought are not authorized by the University and the authenticity of these tickets cannot be guaranteed. Reports of posted threads with the intention to buy or sell Commencement tickets can lead to invalidation of those tickets by the University.

ALTERNATE VIEWING
Guests who are unable to obtain a ticket can view the ceremonies at the Golden Eagle Ballrooms 1 & 2, located on the third floor of the Golden Eagle building. Each ceremony will be livestreamed. No tickets are required for this venue. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
LIVESTREAM

From May 21 - 25, 2018, each ceremony will be livestreamed online. Guests who are unable to attend but would like to view the festivities can visit www.calstatela.edu and watch the ceremonies from their computer, laptop, or mobile device.

BorderPARKING

Guests are encouraged to enter the campus from the north (Valley Boulevard) and east (Hellman Avenue) to help alleviate the traffic arriving from the southern entrances to campus (the San Bernardino 10 Freeway and Eastern Avenue). Attendees will be directed to the following parking structures for Commencement:
  • Structure C (all levels)
  • Lot 5
  • Lot 8 (accessible parking only)
Parking is free at these lots and are on a first-come, first-served basis. We urge all attendees to arrive early and carpool, or use public transportation. All other lots on campus are either restricted or require the necessary parking permits.
 
ACCESSIBLE PARKING
Guests with a DMV disability placard or plates will be directed to accessible parking locations in close proximity to the University Gymnasium.
 
If you are a guest who has physical limitations that does not own a disabled placard, please have your graduating candidate stop by the Parking and Transportation Service Center at least 3 days prior to Commencement to obtain a special permit to park in an accessible lot (up to two permits per graduate). If you require a wheelchair, please make arrangements on your own according to specific needs. Wheelchairs are not available on campus.

BorderSHUTTLES

Shuttles will be available and will have stops at Lot 5, top of Structure C, Lot 8, the Golden Eagle loading dock, and the Cal State LA Transit Center. The shuttles are open to all attendees but priority will be given to guests with accessibility needs, elderly, or guests with small children. The shuttles will run May 21 to 24 from 7 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and, on May 25 from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

BorderSAFETY

SECURITY

For the safety of all our attendees, all guests must pass through security at the designated entrance locations to the University Gymnasium. Bags will be allowed inside the venue and are subject to search. Due to the type of seating inside the gymnasium, your bag must be on your lap at all times and cannot be placed on the aisle or on another seat.

Items not permitted inside the gymnasium are inclusive of, but not limited to, the following:
  • Air horns, balloons, flags with poles, large signs, mega phones
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Bottles or cans
  • Cigarettes and E cigarettes (the University is a tobacco and
  • vape free campus)
  • Drones
  • Fireworks and weapons including firearms, knives, sticks, chains, spiked jewelry, and spiked belts
  • Food & beverages (baby food permitted)
  • Food coolers
  • Laser pointers
  • Skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, helmets, chairs
  • Strollers
  • Umbrellas
MEDICAL / EMERGENCY
Ambulance and Basic Life Support (BLS) personnel will be available during the 2018 Commencement ceremonies.

BorderENTRANCE

The University Gymnasium is located at the center of the campus. There will be two main guest entrances located in front of the venue. The West Gate is accessible off the Main Walkway and across from the Administration building. This is the most accessible and convenient gate for guests who park at Structure C or Lot 5. The East Gate faces the Fine Arts and Engineering & Technology buildings. This is the most accessible and convenient gate for guests who parked at Lot 8 or took the shuttle from Lot 5 or the Cal State LA Transportation Center. The South Gate will only be used after the ceremonies as an exit gate.

Doors to the gymnasium will open 60 minutes* before the ceremony starts. Guests can arrive as early as 75-90 minutes prior to the ceremony to allow sufficient time to park, mobility,  line-up, go through security, get their tickets scanned, and find seating. Five minutes before the ceremony, the doors will close to allow for the processional of the faculty and platform party. Doors will reopen after the national anthem. Each guest will be required to possess a ticket**, including children, in order to gain admittance to the University Gymnasium. Each ticket has a unique barcode and will be scanned before you enter. Guests who exit the event space outside the security area, once admitted, will not gain re-entry.

** It is the graduating candidate's responsibility to reserve and distribute tickets to their guests.

BorderSEATING

Guest seating inside the gymnasium is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive early to obtain the best possible seating for you and your companions. Seating will be on the gymnasium north and south bleachers on the main floor or on the upper grandstand. 
 
ACCESSIBLE SEATING
Accessibility seating are located on main floor only and are on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be designated accessible seating areas in front of the bleachers, and an exclusive accessible / closed captioning seating area behind student seating. One companion may accompany guests with accessibility needs in these locations.
 
SIGN LANGUAGE AND LIVESTREAM CAPTION
Sign language interpreters will be on stage and projected on the jumbo screen during each Commencement ceremony. Television screens featuring captions will be placed in a section reserved for the deaf and hard-of-hearing inside the gymnasium.

By entering the event space, you agree and grant irrevocable permission to have your likeness, image, voice, and appearance photographed and recorded for commercial purposes and used as embodied in titles TBD whether recorded on or transferred to videotape, film, slides, photographs, audio tapes or other media, now known or later developed, and to be included in a non-commercial promotional and news video.
