Graduate Assistant for Department of Sociology
Beginning Fall semester 2016 and on-going
Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Sociology. Graduate Assistants must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
Knowledge of the discipline of Sociology, experience working independently in a fast-paced environment, and a desire for a career in college teaching.
Enrollment in the MA program in Sociology and making substantive progress towards degree; compatible schedule with course to be assisted.
Under the general supervision of the faculty member, the Graduate Assistant will provide assistance in the instruction of students by conducting small discussion groups related to large lectures course activities, may assist in handling equipment, maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact between student and graduate assistant, clarifying course material or course content for students. Will perform clerical or other routine tasks such as grading examinations, recording grades, etc.; assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work and other related tasks.
Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of 5-20 hours per week.
